EARTHWATCH 24-7 · PRIVACY POLICY
Last updated October 24, 2026. This policy covers the website at earthwatch247.com, the EarthWatch 24-7 live stream and the EarthWatch 24-7 YouTube channel.
In short: no accounts, no advertising trackers, no cookies, and nothing collected about you, unless you turn on alerts for your area: then we keep only what's needed to send them (your area, rounded, and an anonymous push address), and turning alerts off deletes it.
The website
- No accounts and no cookies. You never sign in, and the site sets no cookies.
- Visitor statistics. We count page views and which features are used (for example, opening an event card) with Umami, an open-source statistics tool that we run on our own server. It uses no cookies, does not store IP addresses and does not identify you. No third party receives this information.
- Your preferences stay on your device. Your language, the map layers you switch on or off, and the place you choose in "My area" are saved in your own browser's storage so the site remembers them. They are not sent to us. If you choose "use my location", your browser asks your permission first; the location is never sent to us (to show your area, your browser may load map or satellite images of that area directly from public services such as NASA).
- Data feeds and images. To show live information, your browser loads data and pictures directly from public agencies (such as USGS, NOAA, NASA and the others listed on our credits page). Like any website, those services receive the standard information a browser sends when it loads a file, under their own privacy policies.
- Spoken reports and translations. When you turn on sound, or use the site in a language other than English, the site asks our own server to translate the live reports and read them aloud. What it sends is only the text of the public report (for example, a description of an earthquake) and the language to use; nothing about you. The finished translations and recordings are kept on our server so the next visitor gets them instantly; they contain no information about who asked. To stop any one visitor from overloading the server, it remembers each connection's IP address for up to 10 minutes, in memory only, and never writes it down. If your browser has its own built-in translator (Chrome does), the site uses that first, and the translation happens on your device.
- Nearby event alerts. "My area" itself stays on your device. If you turn on "Alert me", your browser asks your permission to show notifications, and so that alerts can reach you even when EarthWatch is closed, it sends our server your area (rounded to about 10 km), the distance you chose, your language, and the anonymous push address your browser creates for these alerts. We don't receive your name, email or any account, and we don't keep your IP address with it. Our server uses this only to check the public feeds for events near your area and send you an alert. Turning alerts off, tapping "Forget", or your browser retiring the push address deletes it from our server. The alerts themselves are delivered by your browser's push service (for example Google, Mozilla, Apple or Microsoft), as for any website notification.
- "I felt it". If you tap "I felt it" on an earthquake's card, our server counts it: it receives only which earthquake it was and a random code your browser makes for this, so one device counts once. It does not receive your place, name or any account, and the count is deleted after 30 days. The card shows the total.
- Server logs. Our web server does not keep access logs of visitors.
The live stream and YouTube
The live stream and our videos are hosted by YouTube. When you watch them, YouTube's own policies apply: see the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
EarthWatch 24-7 uses YouTube API Services only to upload and manage videos on our own channel. Our uploader does not access, collect, store or share any information about YouTube viewers or any other YouTube account. If you have ever granted access to an EarthWatch 24-7 application, you can revoke it at any time in your Google account's security settings.
Children
We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and its date.
